Trash Turtles are BACK!

I’ve been hard at work on a new round of Trash Turtles!

What are Trash Turtles? ๐Ÿ‘€โ˜•๏ธ๐Ÿข

These little monsters might be some of my biggest magic, yet. While most are made from scrap balls of yarn, some aren’t; like these gorgeous pride themed turtles.

The secret to these turtles is, they’re stuffed with trash. . . Well, Kind of.

Each turtle head (and body) is stuffed with plastic.

This most recent batch of turtles are primarily stuffed with the GIANT plastic bag that my fiber fill comes in; plastic grocery bags that ripped and can’t be reused other ways; the outer packaging to ramen multi packs (it doesn’t touch anything besides more ramen packs); the plastic from TP/PT rolls– hear me out, when I put the rolls AWAY, the plastic cannot stay. (There’s SO MUCH PLASTIC wrapping your TP, seriously it fills half the trash can as an empty bag.)

Don’t worry, I only use clean and dry plastics which have NOT been in contact with food or chemical products. (Trust me, there’s still plenty of plastic left to use.)

These turtles are not only a great way for me to remember to sit and rest, they keep my hands moving; but they’re a great way to keep these plastics out of our oceans, creek beds and landfills– at least for a while.

During my walks and forages, I pick up about 2 or 3 garbage bags, a year, worth of litter that doesn’t belong in the woods and parks. While that trash goes in my bin, these turtles are a way for me to reduce my own plastic footprint, even if it’s only by one foot.

Of course that’s never all there is to it when the Witch is involved, 25% of each sale is donated to my usual queer youth initiatives, and an additional 25% is donated to local wildlife rehabs, in Nebraska.

With the recent wild fires, every bit counts to help the wildlife in our state recover.

I hope that you have a chance to pick up one of these sentimental little monsters, at a market near you.

Get em before they’re gone… again. (Previous turtles shown below)
